A few disposable coffee cup as often happens the first thing in the morning. With the slow swipes sleep, I rake them while I wait for the kettle to boil. If I could send right number of grains of coffee from a coffee can on my head, and added just the right amount of sugar, milk and hot water, it will be a good cup of coffee. But if I do not report just right, it’s yuck, that goes to show that there is an ‘art for a decent cup of java to make. Or is there? An art to make coffee, I mean.
The question of what “art” with a capital T has been around for a long time. People more or less agree that making a good cup of coffee is not art, but there is still much disagreement on certain forms of expression such as writing, film making and fashion. There is the idea that fashion is not art, because it has evolved from sewing and tailoring is a craft, even if custom was described as “architecture” and the drape of fabric by the body as “sculptural.” Many designers refer to theories about art and artistic concepts in their work, but still relegated to the rank of frivolous where haute couture is seen as the fetish of the well-to-do financially. And haute couture, once collected and track has been watered down for consumption by the public, will be seen as nothing more than financial products and functional clothing in the market.
Another reason why fashion is not regarded as art, because, as with making movies, a number of people actively involved in the creation of a garment, the designer, manufacturer and release some cutting model and seamstress to mention. Because designers are often not only working to produce a garment, do not fit the traditional conception of the artist as a lonely genius and are therefore not considered artists, even if their vision of what the head looks like it belongs to them.
In short, there is a clear answer to the fact that fashion is art or not, because there are many ways to interpret and use an individual garment. It can be seen as protection against the elements, an expression of belonging to a certain socio-cultural group, as a form of personal expression when it is worn, or pure sense, as embodying the vision of the creator, designer . Because fashion is so fluid and open to interpretation, in line with the theories of many disciplines and forms of expression, where the art is one.
